Career Map

Many people are satisfied to work and hope for promotions within their facility; others have dreams. To realize those dreams, one must prepare in advance. A career map focuses your attention on the necessary movement through time to your destination. Begin with your destination in mind. List all the goals and requirements needed to get to your destination (i.e. additional education, a change in work area, a mentor, etc.) While personal goals are not listed on your map, you must be aware of what they are and how they may affect the time line of your career map. Be sure to start your map with your current degree. The internet offers images of career maps. Be sure to choose a professional looking tool that is not too complex. Your career map will be a graphic representation of your professional pathway. It should be in a Word doc, but is NOT to be in narrative form.
