Focus of Assignment
Short essay on contemporary global conflicts.

Purpose of Assignment:
To provide students with an opportunity to learn about a contemporary global conflict.
To help students develop their research, analytical, and writing skills by examining a global issue of special interest to them.

Essay Topics
Students are encouraged to choose a topic of any major conflict in the world today .
The conflict can be between countries OR within a particular country.

Essay Format
It should contain a proper title page with title of essay, your name, student number and date of submission.
It should contain appropriate headings and sub-headings.
It should not exceed 6 pages single-spaced.
It should be proofread and free of grammatical and spelling errors.
It should contain citations formatted in the in-text citation and a corresponding bibliography as described and illustrated in the Canadian Journal of Political Science.

Essay Headings and Sub-headings
In writing the essay, it is highly recommended that students use the following headings and sub-headings:

1. INTRODUCTION (1 page)
1.1 Purpose/Focus of the Essay
?1.2 Thesis Statement/ Central Argument/Central Theme
?1.3 Organization of Major Sections of the Essay

2. BASIC FACTS OF THE CONFLICT (2 pages)
2.1 Emergence and Evolution of the Conflict Over Time
2.2 Key Actors Involved in the Conflict and Their Goals, Objectives and Initiatives

3. COMMENTARY ON THE EFFECTS OF THE CONFLICT (2 pages)
?3.1 Effects of the Conflict on the Country or Countries
?3.2 Effects of the Conflict on the Region and/or the World

4. CONCLUSIONS (1 page)
4.1 Why does the conflict persist? Why is it so difficult to resolve?
4.2 What are the prospects for resolving the conflict?
4.2 What are your recommendations for resolving the conflict?

5. BIBLIOGRAPHY
5.1 Bibliography should contain at least 4-6 sources.

5.2 Students should strive to use a variety of sources found in the library or online including books, journals, government documents, publications by research institutes, newspaper/magazine articles.
