Referencing and Bibliography
Use Harvard throughout: the Module Handbook for further information regarding the use of Harvard style for referencing, and for information relating to the Bibliography. The Bibliography should contain only those works actually referenced in the dissertation, and it must contain all of them in alphabetical order. Do not include a separate References list.
All chapters begin on a new page. Use Insert Page Break to move to a new page do not insert Returns. Sections within chapters run on.
Headings
Chapter headings: Cambria 16 point, bold, centred Level 1 headings: Cambria 14 point, bold
Level 2 headings: Cambria 12 point, bold
Level 3 headings: Cambria 12 point, italics
Headings should of course be on the same page as the section to which they refer do not leave them hanging at the bottom of a page. If necessary insert a Page Break to move the heading to the next page (do not insert Returns).
Quotes
Quotes less than 40 words long should be run into the text and enclosed in double quotation marks: single quotes should be used only for quotes within quotes. Longer quotes should appear as a separate paragraph, fully justified, indented 1.5 cm on both sides, with no quotation marks. See the Module Handbook for further details. Quotations should not be italicised and should not be centred on the page.
References
The Harvard system should be used consistently. No references whatsoever should appear in footnotes (which should, in any case, be avoided in general or at the very least kept to a minimum). See the Module Handbook for further information regarding the use of Harvard style for referencing.
Students should note that any failure to meet the presentation specifications as stipulated in this style sheet, in particular regarding referencing, quotations and word count, will be taken into account in the assessment of your final overall dissertation mark under the criterion of Structure, Presentation, Scholarly Conduct, which is worth 15% of the final mark.
