THE QUESTION: How do the aims of CRIMINAL PUNISHMENT relate to justice done or justice managed?
INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO RESPOND TO THIS TASK:
STEP 1. Review the readings from weeks 8, 9 and 10.
– Brown, M. (2011) Imprisonment & Detention, in Marmo, M., De Lint, W. & Palma, D. (2011) Crime & Justice: A Guide to Criminology, Lawbook: Sydney:p. 483-498
– Howells, K. & Heseltine, K. (2006) Community-based corrections: p.507-520 , in Marmo, M., De Lint, W. & Palma, D. (2011) Crime & Justice: A Guide to Criminology, Lawbook: Sydney
– Cherney, A. & Sutton, A. (2011) Crime Prevention and Reduction, p.527-546 in Marmo, M., De Lint, W. & Palma, D. (2011) Crime & Justice: A Guide to Criminology, Lawbook: Sydney
STEP 2. Answer the question MAKING DIRECT REFERENCE TO ONE OR MORE OF THE WEEKLY READINGS (using citations and references to the relevant pages from the text).
NOTE: How you do this and what you say is up to you. Just keep it brief and concise…
Things you should take into account when responding to this task: –
Pick ONE type of punishment (we have studied several and you find examples in the readings to choose from)
Pick either justice done or justice managed for your response. ONLY USE ONE – this should help you write a short answer with reference to a specific point made in one of the readings.
Remember your answer MUST be a single short paragraph making a reference to the readings, this can any of the readings from week 8-10.
BONUS marks for participation can be gained from ASKING GOOD QUESTIONS AT THE END OF YOUR POST and FROM RESPONDING TO OTHER STUDENTS QUESTIONS AS THE DISCUSSION GROWS.
REMEMBER:
If you do not use in-text referencing in these posts – following in-house formatting style (i.e. Harvard / author-date) – you will lose marks.
Include also a short reference list to practice formatting for your court report reference lists.
