Language in society

Needs to include the following:
The text itself, or a photocopy of the advert/newspaper.
A report consisting of introduction to the report (what does the media do to persuade/inform us of something, what is point of CDA and its relevance to analysing media discourse); a conclusion/overview- observations relating the task to the concerns of applied language studies as a whole. You have some flexibility about how you do this in an introduction and/or a conclusion, for example but you should make sure that you explain how the taught sessions and the reading you have done have informed your understanding of the tasks.
Your analysis- what did you find in the text? What language was used to inform and persuade you? Why? What was the target audience and how was the language used tailored for this audience? What kinds of linguistic strategies are used to persuade the audience? What is the Ideational function of language – referential and informative dimension – in other words, information and the interpersonal function of language – affective dimension – its focus is persuading and producing feelings and opinions. Make sure you use correct terminology when discussing your analysis.
