Telemedicine and Teleconsultation

Teleconsultation has been a major component of the radiological experience for decades. Each year, there are improvements within the technology stack that provide for a higher rate of data transfer and image processing. However, teleconsultation is not reserved to the radiological domain only. Read the Text 8 (file uploaded). Scenario: There is a multinational research project currently underway in Antarctica. Scientists from 10 countries are represented including 277 men and women within an age range of 22 to 68 years. Most speak English well, but a significant portion considers Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic their native tongues. There is one family physician, Dr. Smith, assigned to the project. She is a U.S. citizen trained within the New York City medical system. The scientists have agreed to work for one year on a geological project, and they are aware that for a portion of the year, hostile environmental forces will create an environment that severely hinders a medical evacuation. During this season, several of the scientists become afflicted with various medical conditions.
Scientist Chen is a 35-year-old Chinese male who has been having palpitations on and off that at times result in headaches. Scientist Sanchez is a 48-year-old Colombian female that has been complaining of pain in her abdomen associated with cramps. She is postmenopausal and has a history of ovarian cancer in her family. Scientist Jones is a 27-year-old American male that has been steadily becoming more argumentative with his fellow scientists. He is not willing to discuss his feelings with Dr. Smith and will discuss only with his primary physician who is based in Iowa. Consider the three patients and their unique problems. Each requires additional medical expertise that Dr. Smith is not capable of providing. The three scientists require telecardiology, teleradiology and telepsychiatry evaluations respectively. Based on the scenario above: 1. Write 1 introduction paragraph (4 sentences). 2. In 1 paragraph (5 sentences or more), identify and explain what each 3 teleconsultation services (telecardiology, teleradiology, telepsychiatry) required would offer. 3. In 1 paragraph (4 sentences or more), identify the hardware, including medical devices, Dr. Smith may require for teleconsultation service. For example, Dr. Smith may need a Pulse Oximeter, ECG, and other devices for Scientist Chen. Scientist Sanchez may require and ultrasound, while Scientist Jones may need ongoing video conferencing counseling sessions. 4. In 1 paragraph (4 sentences or more), describe what video features or other services are necessary for a successful teleconsultation service. 5. In 1 paragraph (4 sentences or more), explain any international considerations and additional requirements for teleconsultation service. 6. In 1 paragraph (5 sentences or more), rank the 3 teleconsultation services (telecardiology, teleradiology, telepsychiatry) according to importance and ease of implementation and explain the ranking. 7. Write 1 conclusion paragraph (4 sentences). Note: Do not plagiarize. You can research on the Internet or books/journals & you can add additional references.
