Part 1:Objective Versus Subjective Test Items
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of objective and subjective test items in assessing student learning. When would subjective tests be appropriate? Using the examples provided in the Suskie and Banta (2009) book and in the required and recommended resources for this Week, select an assignment from a previous course (or even this course) and develop a structured observation guide to grade that assignment.
Part 2: Rating Scales
Develop a 7-8 item rating scale to measure students perceptions of their assessment, curriculum and instruction of a course. Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of using a rating scale to increase teacher quality and improve student learning.
