There are many electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) sensor types with applications including ground target data collection, navigation, and sense-and-avoid. These two sensor types are also some of the most common on UAS platforms due to their versatility, cost, and ease of analysis. For this discussion, consider the current state of technology for EO and IR sensors as used in UAS operations. What are their current primary areas of strength and application?Do you believe that additional development and research is needed to support more complex tasks including detect, sense, and avoid? If so, what capabilities need to be improved to make them more useful (the sensors themselves, data links, data processing or automation, platform integration, etc.)?
